Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with former trainer Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's first title since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.
Victory also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one various events.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his skill to play at the elite level was over.
However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.
Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to force a final set.
The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
